Old Rosebud won the Kentucky Derby in may of 1914
identical example was sold on April 2 2011 at SHOWTIME AUCTIONS springtime 
auction being lot 840 realizing $1750.00 being a damaged example [rim chip] and 
no stopper.
      
      
      
      The "Rosebud" brand was est. 1868 by C. L 
. Applegate, who owned distillery # 7 at 
Yelvington in Davies Co. KY until 1899.
Applegate also raised thoroughbreds and 
his horse "Old Rosebud" won the 1914 
Kentucky Derby with a purse of $9,125.
Applegate and sons also owned the 
"Hawthorne" brand and distillery #15 at 
Bardstown, KY. (Snyder, OBM6/74).
The company used the brand names:
"Daisy", "Daisy Rye", "Eagle Creek", 
"Hawthorne", "Oxley", "Rose Bud", and "St.
