Directions: Start at the intersection of 3rd Street and Main Street in Marble Falls. Go 1/3 block south on Main Street. The store is on
the right (west) side of Man Street, just past the Uptown Theater. 216 Main Street.
Text: Ernst Gustav Michel (1865-1930), a native of Germany, and his wife, Lillie Agnes, opened a drugstore at this site in 1891. After
fire destroyed the first store in 1905, Michel built a 3-story edifice here. The first floor housed the drugstore and soda fountain. The
second floor was an opera house with seating for 300 people. The top floor had the family's living quarters. That structure burned
in a fire that destroyed an entire city block in 1927. All four Michel children who lived to adulthood studied pharmacy. The Michel
family has operated a drugstore at this location since 1891.
1880 Federal Census: Gustave Michel (13) is listed as Grand Son in Fayette County, First Precinct, Texas. Other family members
listed are Augusta Michel (19) Grand Daughter, Louis Michel (11) Grand Son, Irinsea? Michel (9) Grand Daughter, Emile Carpenter
(6) Grand Son, Corrine Carpenter (4) Grand Daughter, Thomas Carpenter (2) Grand Son. Augusta and Gustav were born in
Germany - the rest were born in Texas. The person listed right before them is August Rasler 74 (Shoemaker) (Germany), who must
have been their Grand Father on their mother's side.

34 years of age. He was born September 1865 in Germany. Living with him were his wife Lillie A. (28) (Texas), a daughter Beth A.
