Mr. Johnson came to Brainerd in 1877 and
almost immediately entered the employ of
N. McFadden, who at the time conducted
the McFadden Pharmacy.
The Brainerd Tribune in what was termed
the ninth of a series of articles on the
leading business houses of Brainerd last
month printed a very interesting historical
sketch of Johnson's Pharmacy located in
the Citizen's bank building at the Crow Wing
county metropolis Charles D Johnson the
senior partner of the firm was born at
Mankato on a cold day in January 1859 Mr
Johnson came to Brainerd in 1877 and
almost immediately entered the employ of
N McFadden who at the time conducted the
McFadden Pharmacy After five year's labor
as a clerk Mr Johnson became part owner
of the store In 1887 he sold his interest to
Mr McFadden and a few months later
purchased the JC Foote Drug Store This
store he conducted until 1892 in which year
he sold to Atwood & Johnson For eight
years he was postmaster but in 1900
returned to his old love and with RJ Hartley
purchased what is still known as
Johnson's Pharmacy Later Richard M
Johnson present junior partner in the
business purchased the Hartley interest
Richard Johnson who is the son of CD
Johnson is considered an authority on
merchandise displays and has done much
to make the store one of the most
successful in the northern part of the state
CD familiarly known as the Col or more
lately as the Gen adds in his claims to the
right of being called an old timer that he has
had the pleasure of seeing at close range
every governor of Minnesota since 1849

purchased the latter's stock and will
continue the business in the same quarters
The business heretofore carried on by
Johnson Bros Brainerd will hereafter be
run under the name of CD Johnson He has
moved into new quarters made elaborate
decorations and added a soda fountain

hardwood floor He has also recently bought
a Patterson hot soda apparatus When the
sound of the hammer ceases and the
débris is cleared away Mr Johnson will be
